Cross Country Has Strong Showing at UMass Dartmouth Invitational

North Dartmouth, Mass. – The Framingham State University men's cross country team placed 30th and the women's team placed 32nd as MIT captured the top spot in both the men's and the women's races at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Shriners Invitational this afternoon. 

The men's team was led by freshman Joseph Schow (Southboro, Mass.) who placed 124th in a time of 27:48.  Behind Schow were seniors Joe Jarvis (Hopedale, Mass.) and Greg Hartwich (Holliston, Mass.) who finished just six seconds apart at 29:48 and 29:54.  Rounding out the field for the Rams in the 8K men's race were junior Alex Martin (Boylston, Mass.) (31:42) and freshman Mike Merola (Framingham, Mass.) (34:46).

On the women's side senior Rachael Cooper (Ashland, Mass.) was the Rams top finisher in a time of 21:19 for the 5K course.  Cooper was followed closely by sophomore Elena Cox (Rowley, Mass.) and freshman Janet Brady (Whitman, Mass.) who finished only a second apart at 21:35 and 21:36 respectively.  Senior Michelle Korn (Cortlnadt Manor, NY) was the Rams next to cross the line in 23:17 followed by Shaina Howard (Bellingham, Mass.) (24:02), Diane Williamson (Orleans, Mass.) (25:01) and Monique LaPierre (Ludlow, Mass.) (25:25).

The Rams return to action next Saturday at the Worcester City Meet at Moore State Park with the women's race beginning at 10 a.m. and the men's at 10:45 a.m.
