Athletic & Recreation Center

The Framingham State University Athletic and Recreation Center opened in November, 2001. Over the past two decades the center has increased the number of people using the facility, the number of intramural sports offered, the number of students participating, and the number of aerobics and informal recreation programs being offered.

The $12 million facility features two full-length basketball courts, a volleyball court and seating for one thousand spectators at home volleyball and basketball games. The campus bookstore, a juice bar that offers an assortment of snacks and beverages, and the offices of the athletic department staff are located in the facility. The building has proven to be a valuable recruiting tool for all of the Rams athletic programs with its state-of-the-art training room and locker rooms for both the men's and women's varsity teams. The second floor of the Athletic and Recreation Center houses a weight room equipped with nautilus machines, cardiovascular equipment, and free weights, as well as two all-purpose rooms which are used for aerobics and dance classes.

Since the opening of the Athletic and Recreation Center, the intramural program at Framingham State has expanded to include more than 11 programs with over one thousand students participating. The programs range from team sports such as indoor soccer, volleyball, basketball, whiffleball, and floor hockey to individual competitions including arm wrestling, bench press, triathlon, 3-point shooting, and table hockey.
