Men’s Cross Country Chosen to Finish Eighth in MASCAC Preseason Poll

Buzzards Bay, Mass. — The Framingham State University men's cross country team has been selected to finish eighth while the Owls of Westfield State University are the pre-season pick to win the 2011 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Cross Country championship in a vote of the league's coaches.

Westfield State captured five first place votes to amass 61 points and top second place and defending MASCAC champion Bridgewater State's total of 55 points that included the other three first place votes. Fitchburg State is next in third place with 51 points, while Worcester State and Massachusetts Maritime follow in fourth and fifth place with 35 and 34 points, respectively. Salem State is next in sixth place with 26 points, while MCLA and Framingham State round out in the poll in seventh and eighth place, respectively, with 14 and 12 points.

Now in its fifth decade of service to eight institutions in the Commonwealth, the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference has a rich and storied tradition of competitive success while celebrating excellence in the classroom. MASCAC member schools include Bridgewater State University, Fitchburg State University, Framingham State University, MCLA, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Salem State University, Westfield State University and Worcester State University. Two other institutions, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Plymouth State University, are affiliate members of the conference in the sport of men's ice hockey.
