Hoban Has Strong Showing at James Earley Invitational
Westfield, MA - The Westfield State College women's cross
country team continued to run well this season by placing second in
the 13th Annual James Earley Invitational on a picture-perfect day
at Stanley Park in Westfield.
Carleton College of Minnesota made its trip to New England extra
special by running away with the team title with an outstanding
total of 25 points to easily outdistance Westfield (75 points).
Carelton had four runners place in the top six (7 in the top 13)
including individual champion Simone Childs-Walker (18:18.69).
Carleton College is currently ranked 10th nationally in NCAA
Division III and three of its top eight runners in Saturday's race
are from New England (Shelburne Falls, Mass., South Windsor, Conn.,
Brunswick, Maine).
Trailing Westfield were: Trinity (80), Vassar (86), Gordon (129)
and Bridgewater State (205).
Westfield junior Kerry Arouca placed second, finishing 13 seconds
behind the individual champion.
The Owls' other top runners were: senior Marianne Mealey (9th),
freshman Marissa Benito (17th), sophomore Heather Wiencko (21st),
senior Melissa Joyce (26th), freshman Nicole Brouwer (27th), and
junior Ally Brown (28th).
Framingham State's top finisher was freshman Meredith Hoban (Norwood, MA) who finished 48th in a time of 21:22. Hoban was the 13th freshman to cross the line.
