Volleyball Fourth Seed in MASCAC Tournament – Host Fifth Seed Bridgewater State

Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State University volleyball team has earned the fourth seed in the 2018 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Volleyball Tournament.

The Rams finished the 2018 regular season 16-14 overall and 4-3 in league play.  As the fourth seed, the Rams will host fifth seed Bridgewater State University on Tuesday, October 30th at 7:30 p.m. at the Athletic Center.  The winner will advance to the semifinal round on Thursday and face top seed Worcester State, who received a first round bye, in Worcester.

The Rams have been led on the attack this season by freshman Brandee Thomas (North Kingstown, RI). Thomas was named the MASCAC Rookie of the Week every week except one during her rookie campaign as she racked up 331 kills with a .217 attack percentage.  Senior Mackenzie Whalen (Norton, Mass.) was solid recording 839 assists with 278 digs, while freshman Alyssa Cafarelli (Peoria, AZ) led the back row with 392 digs.

Rounding out the tournament field are third seed Westfield State and sixth seed MCLA who meet in the other quarterfinal on Tuesday night. The winner of that match advances to face second seed Salem State on Thursday in the other semifinal.

The tournament concludes on Saturday when the winners of the two semifinals meet at the highest remaining seed. The winner of the tournament receives the MASCAC's automatic bid to the 2018 NCAA Division III Volleyball Championship.
