Volleyball Splits a Pair with St. Joseph’s and Rivier

Nashua, NH - The Framingham State University volleyball team defeated St. Joseph's (CT) 3-0 before falling 3-0 to host Rivier today at a non-conference tri-match at Muldoon Gymnasium.

FSU 3, SJC (CT) 0

  • Framingham State defeated St. Joseph's by scores of 25-16, 25-9 and 25-9.
  • The Rams were paced by 10 kills on 19 swings with two errors for a .421 attack percentage by sophomore Brandey Rodriguez (Lawrence, Mass.). Rodriguez added four service aces, a block and three digs.
  • Freshman Brandee Thomas (North Kingstown, RI) chipped in with nine kills, while senior Mackenzie Whalen (Norton, Mass.) added 27 set assists and nine digs
  • Freshman Alyssa Cafarelli (Peoria, AZ) paced the defense with 23 digs, while junior Deirdre Fay (Cornwall, NY) added nine.

Rivier 3, FSU 0

  • The Rams were defeated by Rivier by scores of 25-8, 25-17 and 25-21.
  • The Rams struggled on the attack against Rivier hitting just -.118 with only 13 kills on 93 attempts with 24 errors.
  • Thomas and sophomore Grace Caughey (Mendon, Mass.) led the way for the Rams with five kills apiece, while Rodriguez added two.
  • Whalen recorded 10 assists with six digs, while Cafarelli added five digs and Fay six.

The Rams are back in action on Tuesday evening when they host Bridgewater State for a MASCAC match beginning at 7 p.m.
