MCLA Edges Women’s Ice Hockey in MASCAC Action

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – The Mass. Liberal Arts women's ice hockey team secured a 2-1 victory over Framingham State in a conference matchup on Saturday evening at the Peter W. Foote Vietnam Veterans Memorial Rink. 

THE BASICS: 

  • Final Score: Mass. Liberal Arts 2, Framingham State 1 

  • Records: Mass. Liberal Arts (9-10-0, 3-6-0), Framingham State (0-18-0, 0-12-0) 

  • Location: Peter W. Foote Vietnam Veterans Memorial Rink – North Adams, Mass. 

 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

1st Period: 

  • MCLA struck first with a power-play goal at 8:45 when Carlen Bertrand found the back of the net unassisted.  

2nd Period: 

  • The Trailblazers extended their lead to 2-0 at the 6:58 mark with a goal from Milena Monell, assisted by Belle Wurmser. 

3rd Period: 

  • Both teams had scoring chances, but neither found the net in the final period. 

  • Framingham State pressed for the equalizer, but MCLA held on for the win. 

KEY PERFORMERS: 

MCLA: 

  • Carlen Bertrand: 1 goal 

  • Milena Monell: 1 goal 

  • Belle Wurmser: 1 assist 

  • Kaia Borski: 30 saves on 31 shots for the win 

Framingham State: 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • The Trailblazers outshot Framingham State 39-31. 

  • Special teams played a role, with MCLA going 1-for-7 on the power play, while Framingham State was 0-for-4. 

  • Framingham State committed seven penalties for 14 minutes, while MCLA had three infractions totaling six minutes.
