Women's Ice Hockey Falls 4-2 at Salem State

Salem, Mass. - The Framingham State University women's ice hockey team was defeated 4-2 by Salem State University in non-conference action this evening at Rockett Arena.   

THE BASICS: 

-Scores:  Salem State 4, Framingham State 2 

-Records: Framingham State (0-3), Salem State (1-0) 

- Location: Rockett Arena Salem, Mass.  

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • The Vikings led 1-0 after the first period, tallying the only goal of the period 2:34 into the game. 

  • Salem State doubled the lead to 2-0 with a power play goal to start the second, but the Rams used an unassisted tally from Ceira Garrity to cut the deficit to 2-1 after two frames. 

  • After an early third period goal, Salem led 3-1, but the Rams closed the gap to 3-2 just over a minute later when Petra Cernicek found the back of the net unassisted. The Vikings added an empty net goal with just over two to play to reach the final margin. 

KEY PERFORMERS 

Salem State 

  • Isabelle Besser – two goals – Aislinn Bennett and Mallory Albanese – one goal apiece 

  • Samantha Jaworski – 16 saves in net  

Framingham State 

 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 

  • The Vikings outshot the Rams 49-18 and held a 41-20 lead in faceoffs. 

  • The Vikings were 2-for-8 on the power play, while the Rams went 0-for-4 with the man advantage.
