Velozo Hits 1,000 Point Mark in Win Over Fitchburg State

Framingham, Mass.- Framingham State senior Emily Velozo scored 18 points, 14 in the 4th quarter and became the 13th player in program history to reach the 1,000 point milestone as the Rams defeated Fitchburg State 77-51 in MASCAC action Tuesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Falcons jumped out to a quick lead in the first quarter leading 14-7 over halfway through the first. The Rams cut back into the lead to tie and after a few lead changes the hosts made their run. The Rams found themselves down 4 half way through the second and broke off a 16-0 run to take a 36-24 lead in the final moments of the half.
  • The Falcons cut it close late in the 3rd after a Catherin Coppinger layup cut the Rams lead to 44-40 Rams senior Mary Kate O'Day sunk a trey on the other end as the Rams would push their lead.
  • The Rams would outscore the visitors 26-7 in the final frame behind the 14 points from Velozo to seal the victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • O'Day finished with a game-high 19 points with twelve boards for the double double. Velozo scored 18 with eight boards four assists and a block.
  • Coppinger scored 13 and grabbed eight boards with four helpers, a block and a steal. Angelina Marazzi added 12 with three assists and two steals for the Falcons.
  • The Rams shot 44% from the floor and 37% from long range. The Falcons were 34% from the field and 24% from beyond the arc.
