Women’s Basketball Closes Southern Swing with Loss to Franklin

Framingham, Mass. – The Franklin College women's basketball team defeated Framingham State by a score of 77-75 in a nail-biting finish during day two of the Land of Magic Classic in Daytona Beach.
THE BASICS:
- Score: Franklin College 77, Framingham State 75
- Records: Franklin College (6-3), Framingham State (8-4)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Rams jumped out to a 19-8 lead in the first quarter of play behind 15 points from the duo of seniors Emily Velozo and Mary Kate O'Day.
- Franklin countered in the second frame sending the teams to the half with the Rams leading 32-29.
- The game remained tight the whole way seeing 11 ties and five lead changes. With under two minutes to play Franklin took a 73-71 lead. O'Day retied the game with a jumper but the visitors again countered with a Jessic Nix jumper.
- On the Rams next possession Velozo was fouled and hit both her shots from the line to make it 75 all.
- Ashlin Aycock hit a layup with 12 seconds to go to take a 75-73 lead, the Rams called timeout, advanced the ball but their final possession resulted in a turnover in the final seconds.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Bayleigh Waler led all scorers with 31 points with 7 boards while Nix added 14 points and eight boards.
- O'Day registered 22 points with eight boards and two blocks while Velozo finished with 20 points, three boards and three assists. Freshman Flannery O'Connor added ten points and nine boards.
- The Rams shot 43% from the floor and 47% from long range. Franklin was 42% from the floor and only 25% from long range.
