Mulherin Reaches 1,000 Points at Framingham; Women’s Basketball Defeats York (PA) in Daytona Beach
Daytona Beach, Fla. – Senior guard Raegan Mulherin (Baldwinville, Mass.) scored 24 point surpassing the 1,000th point mark at Framingham State as the Rams defeated York (PA) 73-64 in Daytona Beach, Fla. Thursday afternoon. With the win the Rams improve to 5-6 while York slips to 6-4.
Mulherin, who surpassed the 1,000 career point mark last season after transferring to the Rams after her freshman season, led the Rams with 24 points shooting 7-of-14 from the floor, 3-of-6 from beyond the arc and a perfect 7-for-7 from the line. Sophomore Mary Kate O'Day (Berlin, Mass.) added 19 points with 8 rebounds while classmate Emily Velozo (Tewksbury, Mass.) contributed 16 points from the bench.
The Spartans were paced by Katie Wagner with 14 points while Sam Mocniak & Mogan Kuehne added 12 points and 11 points respectively.
After an even 1st period the Spartans pulled away by as much as ten points late in the 1st half but the Rams cut the score to 31-25 heading into the break. After some more back-and-forth action in the early moments of the second half the Rams called a timeout down 37-30 and answered with a 20-to-2 run featuring 8 points by Mulherin and capped by a trey from O'Day to take a commanding 50-39 that they would not relinquish.
The Rams shot 23-for-55 from the floor, 6-for-14 from long-range and 21-of-26 from the stripe. The Spartans shot 25-of-83 from the floor and struggled from the line shooting 8-for-14.
The Rams will return to action Friday, December 29th when they continue play in Daytona Beach when they play Western New England at 7:00pm.
