Softball Opens Season with Split with Hartford

Framingham, Mass. - The Framingham State University softball team opened the season this afternoon splitting a pair of games with Hartford. The Rams took the opener by a score of 7-2 before falling 8-5 in six innings in the nightcap at Maple Street Field.

Hartford 8, Framingham State 5 (6 Innings) 

- Records: Framingham State (1-1), Hartford (1-3)

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

Game 1: Framingham 8, Hartford 2 

  • The Rams pushed the lead to 5-0 in the bottom of the second on an RBI ground out from Rooney and wild pitch. 

  • Hartford plated a pair in the top of the fourth, but the Rams used a two run double from Sillings to reach the final margin. 

  • Julianna Chisholm earned the victory in her first start going four innings and allowing two earned runs on two hits with three walks and two strikeouts. 

  • Sillings finished the game 3-for-3 with three RBI, while Brooke Grassia also finished with a pair of hits. 

Game 2: Hartford 8, Framingham 5 (6 Innings) 

  • In game two, Hartford jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the second inning. 

  • The Rams pulled within one in the bottom of the inning on a passed ball and an RBI single from Gianna Paolino. 

  • Hartford pushed the lead back to three with two runs in the top of the third, but the Rams answered with three in the bottom of the frame tying the game at 5-5. Ava Gray plated a run with a single to center and Haley Jensen scored a pair on a triple. 

  • Hartford took the lead for good with three runs in the top of the fifth. 

  • Audrey Gauthier took the loss in the circle going 3.2 innings allowing five earned runs on four hits with seven walks and two strikeouts.
