Softball Tops Husson 3-1 in Opening Round of NCAA Tournament – Rams Snap Eagles 30-game Win Streak

Bangor, Maine - The Framingham State University softball team broke open a scoreless game with three runs in the top of the fifth as the Rams defeated host Husson University 3-1 this afternoon in an opening round game of the 2024 NCAA Softball Tournament at O'Keefe Field.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • With the victory the Rams snapped the Eagles 30-game win streak and advanced into the winner's bracket at the Bangor Regional. 

  • Rams starter Ally Moran and Eagle starter Danielle Masterson were locked in a pitcher's duel through the first four innings with Moran allowing just one hit and Masterson holding the Rams to just two hits. 

  • The Rams broke through for three runs in the top of the fifth as they capitalized on a pair of Eagles fielding miscues. Eliza Carignan singled to lead off the inning and Talia Duca reached on an error on a sacrifice bunt. After an out, Victoria Connelly reached on an error on a bunt allowing Carignan to score the game's first run. After the second out of the inning, Makayla Rooney delivered a two run double to center plating the final two runs of the frame. 

  • The Owls got on the board in the bottom of the inning on a sacrifice fly from L Rice. 

  • Moran was able to retire the Eagles in order in the bottom of the sixth and allowing a single to lead off the seventh, but a double play and a flyout ended the game. 

  • Moran earned the victory going seven innings, allowing one earned run on four hits with two strikeouts and two walks. 

  • Carignan finished the game 2-for-3 with a run scored, while Rooney finished 1-for-3 with two RBI. 

UP NEXT: 

The Rams advance to the winner's bracket and will face either Williams or Rensselaer tomorrow at Husson at 11 a.m.
