Softball Swept by UMass Boston

Boston, Mass. - The Framingham State University softball team was defeated 6-5 and 4-0 by UMass Boston this afternoon in a non-conference doubleheader at The Softball Field.  

THE BASICS:

- Records: Framingham State (17-14), UMass Boston (25-9)

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

Game 1: UMB 6, Framingham 5 

  • The Rams plated three runs in the top of the first inning on a wild pitch and a two run double from Eliza Carignan, but the Beacons tied the game with three in the bottom of the inning. 

  • The Rams once again took the lead in the top of the second on a two run home run from Gwendolyn Carpenter, but the Beacons closed the gap to one in the bottom of the inning. 

  • The Rams lead held until the Beacons walked off with the victory in the bottom of the seven as they took advantage of a pair of Rams errors to plate two runs. 

  • Ally Moran took the loss in the circle allowing two unearned runs on 10 hits with nine strikeouts. 

  • Carpenter finished the game 2-for-4 with a homer, two runs scored and two RBI, while Makayla Rooney, Kelsey McGuill and Haley Jensen added two hits apiece. 

Game 2: UMB 4, Framingham 0 

  • In game two, the Beacons got on the board with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second and added two more in the bottom of the fourth to reach the final score. 

  • Brianna Melchionda earned the victory for the Beacons allowing no runs on six hits with two strikeouts. 

  • Caroline Hughes took the loss going six innings, allowing four runs, three earned, on 10 hits with a strikeout and no walks.

The Rams are back in action Tuesday with a pair of games against Wentworth beginning at 3 p.m.
