Fourth Seed Softball Falls 5-4 to Top Seed Bridgewater in MASCAC Tournament

Bridgewater, Mass. - The fourth seed Framingham State University softball team fell 5-4 in 10 innings to top seed Bridgewater State in the 2022 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Softball Tournament at Alumni Field.   

THE BASICS: 

- Score: Bridgewater State 5, Framingham State 4 (10 Innings) 

- Records: Framingham State (19-17), Bridgewater State (22-14-1) 

- Location: Bridgewater, Mass. - Alumni Field 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:  

  • The Rams batted around in the top of the first inning plating four runs to take the early lead. Gwendolyn Carpenter plated the first on an RBI single and Kelsey McGuill reached on a fielder's choice scoring the second run. Ava Rodriguez followed with a bases loaded walk and Zoe Smyth capped the inning with a sacrifice fly to left. 

  • The Bears got a pair of runs back in the bottom of the second inning on a sacrifice fly and an RBI single from Emma Healy making the score 4-2 after two. 

  • The Bears capitalized on a Framingham error in the bottom of the third to pull within one, 4-3. 

  • Bridgewater State tied the game in the bottom of the seventh on a Kerrin McLaughlin RBI single forcing extra innings. 

  • After a scoreless eighth and ninth inning, the Rams were retired in the top of the ninth setting the table for the Bears in the bottom of the frame. The Bears loaded the bases with one out and Megan Sharon the winning run from third on a passed ball. 

  • Carpenter finished the game going 2-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI, while Shelby Roode tallied a pair of hits and scored a run. 

  • Ally Moran took the loss in the circle for the Rams going the distance allowing five runs, one earned, on 10 hits with three strikeouts. 

  • Kelley Reichert earned the win for the Bears going ten innings allowing four earned runs on nine hits with four strikeouts.  

 

UP NEXT: 

With the victory, the Bears advance in the Tournament and will face Worcester State on Friday afternoon at 4 p.m., while the Rams will host Salem State tomorrow at 4 p.m. in an elimination game.
