Simmons Takes Two from Softball

Game 1: Simmons 3, Framingham State 1 

• The Rams got on the board first in the bottom of the second inning on an RBI double by Morgan Poli that plated Ally Gruca who had doubled earlier in the inning. 

• The Sharks took the lead for good in the top of the third inning. Allie Mulherin plated a run with a double and the Sharks took advantage of a pair of Ram errors to score the second. 

• A solo homer to right from Jordyn Rubin in the top of the sixth accounted for the final run of the game. 

• Maddie Castigliego earned the win in the circle for the Sharks going seven innings and allowing one run on four hits with eight strikeouts. 

• Ally Moran took the loss in the circle for the Rams going seven and allowing three runs, two earned, on six hits with five strikeouts. 

Game 2: Simmons 12, Framingham State 3 (5 Innings) 

• The Rams took the early lead in game two on an RBI double by Shelby Roode in the bottom of the first inning. 

• The Rams extended the lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the second on a two run homer to left by Zoe Smyth that scored Brooke Grassia who had singled earlier in the inning. 

• Simmons tied the game and took the lead for good with four runs in the top of the fourth inning. Christie Bott delivered, and RBI singles and Kylie Collins and Sam Barr walked with the bases loaded. 

• After the Rams loaded the bases in the bottom of the fourth and did not score, the Sharks added eight more in the top of the fifth inning to earn the run rule victory. 

• Castigliego earned the victory in game two going five innings and allowing three runs on seven hits. 

• Caroline Hughes started in the circle for the Rams but did not factor in the decision as she went three and two thirds allowing three earned runs on four hits with five strikeouts.
