Men’s Soccer Downed by #4 UMass Boston

Framingham, Mass.- The Framingham State men's soccer team was defeated by UMass.- Boston, ranked fourth nationally, by a score of 6-1 on Wednesday afternoon at Maple Street Field.

With the win the Beacons improve to 12-0-1 and the Rams slip to 5-8.

The Beacons opened up scoring in the 12th minute when Guilherme Barbosa (Saugus, Mass.) gathered a loose ball and sent a strike past the Rams keeper. Just about 20 minutes later the Beacons added to their lead when a cross was deflected into the back of the net by a Rams defender.

The Rams got on the board in the 62nd minute when a Beacons foul set up a Simon Appiah (Worcester, Mass.) free kick from 25 yards out that he tucked inside the post to cut the lead to 2-1.

Just over two minutes later the Beacons answered when Marcelo Cunha (Goiania, Brazil) one-timed a corner kick from Calvin Smick (Wilmington, Mass.).

The Beacons added a couple late tallies in the second frame. First with just over 10 minutes to play Mohamed Kenaway (Revere, Mass.) sent a one-time pass from Edmilson Barros (Praia, Cape Verde) into the back of the net. A few moments later Kenaway scored again, unassisted. Then win just over three minute to play Barros sent in a long cross from Klismam Mendes (Fogo, Cape Verde) to reach the final margin.

Aidan Carter (Weymouth, Mass.) turned away seven shots in the win for the Beacons. Corey Davidge (Blackstone, Mass.) made twelve saves in the setback for the Rams.

The Beacons outshot the Rams 23-to-21 and took 7 corners to the Rams 6.

The Rams return to action on Saturday, October 15th when they host Salem State at noon. The Beacons travel to Eastern Connecticut on the same day.
