Framingham, Mass. – Junior Connor McInnis (Duxbury, MA/ Tabor Academy) headed a cross from freshman Chris Beaulieu (Carver, MA) into the back of the net in the 4th minute of play to lead the Mass. Maritime to a 2-0 victory over the host Framingham State Saturday afternoon. With the victory the Buccaneers improves to 6-7-1 (3-2-1 MASCAC) and the Rams fall to 4-10-2 (2-3-1 MASCAC).

Maritime opened up the scoring with the McInnis goal. Just a few minutes later the Rams had a great look to tie but the Brandon Downey (Sandwich, MA) header was saved by the Bucs' keeper.

The Bucs added to their lead when junior Nick Parker (Plymouth, MA) scored in the 18th minute. Parker found the back of the net after sophomore goal keeper Joe Cohen (Plymouth, MA) sent a long punt that hopped over the head of a Ram defender and keeper and was guided into the net by Parker. Cohen was credited with an assist on the play.

The Bucs lead in shots 10-5 at half but the Rams defense held them to only 3 shots in the second half. Even though the Rams held a 17-13 advantage in shots they were not able to find the back of the net.

Sophomore Jacob Nichols (Sturbridge, MA/ Tantasqua) made two saves and allowed two goals for the Rams. Cohen made seven saves in the shutout for the Bucs, his sixth of the season.

After the game junior, back Jeffery Braverman (Framingham, MA) was awarded the 2014 Peter J. Heffernan Award. The Peter J. Heffernan Jr. Award is given annually to a member of the men's soccer team for outstanding performance in a game.  Heffernan is a former FSU men's soccer player and alum who tragically passed away in 2005 and the award has been given in his honor every year since.

The Rams return to action on Wednesday, October 29th when they travel to Clark for a 6:00 p.m. start. The Bucs will host Mass.- Boston on the same day at 7:00 p.m.
