Framingham, Mass. – Framingham State University senior Bryan DaSilva (Milford, MA) sent a chipshot from 30 yards, over the head of the Vikings keeper to break a 1-1 tie with Salem State in men's soccer MASCAC action Saturday afternoon  at Maple St. Field. DaSilva was set up by a long pass from junior Cory Cardeiro (Fall River, MA/ BMC Durfee) who was credited with an assist on the game winner.

With the victory the Rams improve to 4-5-1, 2-1 MASCAC and the Vikings fall to 1-10, 1-2 MASCAC.

The Rams opened up the scoring in the third minute when a Viking foul setup a direct kick for the Rams. The Rams hurried to the ball and Cardeiro sent a long strike into the net from 30 yards out before Salem could set their defense.

After playing almost seventy minutes without another score Salem was granted a penalty kick after a Viking player was taken down in the box. Sophmore Kevin Gallo (Melrose, MA/ Liceo Scientiefico) converted the penalty for the only Viking score of the day.

The Vikings best chance to score from the field came with just over 24 minutes remaining in regulation. A Vikings player found a teammate in front of the net on a beautiful one time pass that was redirected just high.

After some back and forth play the Rams took the lead on the DaSilva goal with just over five minutes remaining. Neither team had a quality scoring chance the rest of the contest.

The Rams outshot the Vikings 17-13 in the defensive struggle. There were 29 fouls called and 6 yellow cards assessed.

Sophomore Jacob Nichols (Sturbridge, MA, Tantasqua) made 2 saves and allowed one goal while his counterpart Nondas Kargakis (Heraklion, Greece) made 7 saves.

The Rams return to action when they travel to Springfield for a non-conference matchup on Tuesday, October 7th at 4:30 p.m.
