Framingham, Mass. – Framingham State University junior Maycon Malta (Milford, Mass.) scored in the 87th minute to help deliver a 2-1 non-conference men's soccer victory over visiting Clark on Wednesday afternoon at Maple Street Field.

Malta raced down the field and capitalized on a one-on-one opportunity as he tucked the ball into the lower left corner of the net at 86:49.

Senior Ryan Boughter (Rockland, Mass.) opened the scoring for the Rams when he finished off a corner in at 19:59 off a corner taken by junior Bryan DaSilva (Milford, Mass.). Four minutes earlier, Boughter's attempt on a similar play went wide. Junior Oscar Zapata (Lima, Peru) had a good look from the left side in the 31st minute but the ball was scooped up by senior goalkeeper Kiko Anzoategui (Peabody, Mass.). The Cougars nearly leveled the game just before the break when freshman Michael Spanos (Waterford, Conn.) attempted to deposit a free kick taken by senior Josh Demers (Warwick, R.I.) with 1:37 showing on the scoreboard.

Clark broke through with the equalizer just 2:35 into the second half as freshman Vinny Morra (Setauket, N.Y.) headed in a feed from classmate Zack Blais (Tiverton, R.I.). Zapata had a chance to put the guests on top in the 52nd minute; however, his bid glanced off the crossbar. The Cougars then went on to outshoot the hosts 5-1 until Malta's game-winning tally.

Anzoategui (4-6-1) stopped five shots in the victory while Clark senior Afonso Alvarez (San Salvador, El Salvador) made a pair of saves in the setback (1-4-2). The Cougars claimed a 19-9 margin in shots and a 5-3 edge in corner kicks.

Prior to the match, Anzoategui and Boughter were recognized for their contributions to the Framingham State University men's soccer program in a brief Senior Day ceremony.

The Rams (6-11-1) travel to Westfield State for the final Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) match of the regular season at 5 p.m. Clark (4-11-2) closes out its New England Men's and Women's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) regular season slate with a 2:30 p.m. home match against Wheaton.
