Men’s Soccer Slips Past MCLA in Double Overtime, 1-0

Framingham, Mass. – Junior Mark Bamford (Ludlow, Mass.) used a long boot with 1:36 remaining in the second overtime to lift host Framingham State University to a 1-0 triumph over MCLA in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) men's soccer match on Saturday afternoon at Maple Street Field.

Bamford sent everyone home with a kick that found its way by the MCLA netminder at 108:24. The strike was setup by a pass from freshman Gil Mendes (Framingham, Mass.).

Earlier in the extra sessions, junior Nicholas Cotter's (Sandwich, Mass.) bid in the 97th minute went high and his shot in the 102nd minute was stopped by Trailblazer junior goalkeeper Matt Robinson (Petersham, Mass.).

Senior Henrique DaSilva (Framingham, Mass.) missed the goal by inches when he took aim in the 8th minute. Cotter later had his chance in the 22nd minute denied by the right post. Two minutes earlier, MCLA sophomore Tyler Guzzi (Southborough, Mass.) had his free kick scooped up by junior backstop William Levitsky (Westford, Mass.) for the only Trailblazer shot on goal in the frame.

The second half saw MCLA, who was shorthanded since the 36th minute, claim a 6-5 advantage in shots while Framingham State took three of the four corner kicks. For the contest, the Trailblazers finished with a 5-4 edge in corner kicks and trailed the hosts by two shots (13-11).

Levitsky (2-3) stopped a trio of shots for Framingham State while Robinson (2-6-1) collected a game-high five saves for MCLA.

The Rams (3-10, 2-2 MASCAC) entertain Keene State on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. while the Trailblazers (3-6-1, 0-3-1 MASCAC) venture to Castleton for a 7 p.m. match, also on Wednesday.
