Men’s Soccer Blanks Salem State 2-0

Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State University men's soccer team remains unbeaten atop the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) men's soccer standings after defeating the Salem State Vikings 2-0 this afternoon in MASCAC action at Maple Street Field.

Both teams entered the game an identical 2-0 in the conference and with the victory the Rams are now 3-0 and improve to 3-5-1 overall, while the Vikings fall to 2-1 in the MASCAC and 6-4 on the year.

Freshman midfielder Cory Cardeiro (Westport, Mass.) had a hand in both FSU goals in the game as he tallied his first goal of the season and assisted on the Rams second goal.

Cardeiro put the Rams ahead for good in the 7th minute of the game as he headed in a cross from classmate Bryan DaSilva (Milford, Mass.).

The Rams doubled their lead just under 10 minutes later as Cardeiro sent a cross to junior Jepherson Cardoso (Framingham, Mass.) and Cardoso placed a shot in the corner of the net for his second goal of the season.

That was all the offense the Rams would need as junior goalkeeper Sam Yoder (Uxbridge, Mass.) turned away everything the Vikings sent his way. Yoder finished the game with 10 saves en route to his third shutout of the season.  Junior Scott Hall (Waltham, Mass.) picked up the loss in net for the Vikings as he made five saves.

The game was a very physical contest that saw 35 total fouls called and 11 cards handed out including a trio of red cards that led to the game being played 10 v. 9 down the stretch.

The Rams return to action on Tuesday as they host Springfield College at 4 p.m., while the Vikings travel to Keene State on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
