Men's Soccer Falls to Babson 5-1

Babson Park, Mass. – The Babson College men's soccer team scored five unanswered goals to overcome an early 1-0 deficit en route to a 5-1 victory over visiting Framingham State University in a non-conference matchup at Hartwell-Rogers Field on Wednesday. With the win, the Beavers improve to 4-2-1 on the season, while the loss drops the Rams' record to 1-4-1.

Framingham State netted the game's first goal less than two minutes in, beginning with a free kick from near midfield. Junior Luis Gomes (Milford, Mass.) sent it to the right side of the box, where sophomore Romulo Carvalho (Milford, Mass.) deflected it to classmate Ronaldo Vieira (Framingham, Mass.). Vieira then blasted an open shot from 15 yards out past diving senior goalie Peter Crowley (Lexington, Mass.) and inside the left post for his team-leading fifth goal of the season at 1:37.

Babson knotted the score at 1-1 later in the first half, as senior captain Max Walker (Newton, Mass.) took a throw-in from junior Jimmy Stento (Needham, Mass.) on the right side and sent a cross to sophomore Mike Fisher (Longmeadow, Mass.). The second-year midfielder then blasted a shot from the middle of the box into the lower left corner for his second of the season at 24:55.

The Beavers grabbed the lead early in the second half, as junior Eric Anderson (Scituate, Mass.) deflected a cross from sophomore Thomas Elbling (Porta Alegra, Brazil) to the left side of the box. There, junior Ayo Iwuagwu (Lagos, Nigeria) tucked it inside the left post from 10 yards out for his second goal of the year at 51:22.

Babson tacked on three more goals down the stretch. The first came when Anderson redirected another Elbling service to senior Ryan Obolewicz (Box, N.H.), who buried it inside the left post from eight yards away for his first score of the fall at 61:55. The second came less than seven minutes later, when sophomore Ben Pasquariello (Danvers, Mass.) found the lower right corner off a deflection at the top of the box, and the third came when sophomore Kevin Israel (Lafayette Hill, Pa.) netted his first collegiate goal off a feed from first-year Shawn Citro (Oakland, N.J.) at 82:05.

Senior Peter Crowley (Lexington, Mass.) made two saves in net for Babson before giving way to sophomore Jackson Klein (Maplewood, N.J.), who did not face a shot in the final seven minutes. Junior starter Sam Yoder (Southbridge, Mass.) and first-year back-up Billy Levitsky (Westford, Mass.) each finished with two saves in goal for Framingham State.

The Rams return to action on Saturday at Worcester State at 10 a.m.
