Men’s Soccer Opens Conference Play with 2-0 Victory over Mass. Maritime

Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State University men's soccer opened Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action this afternoon at Maple Street Field with a 2-0 victory over Massachusetts Maritime Academy.  With the win the Rams improve to 1-3-1 on the year and are 1-0 in conference, while the Buccaneers are still in search of their first victory at 0-5 overall and 0-1 in the MASCAC.

Sophomore Ronaldo Vieira (Framingham, Mass.) scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 25th minute of action as he beat the Mass. Maritime goalkeeper with a perfectly place penalty shot.

The Rams extended their lead to 2-0 in the second half as freshman Cory Cardeiro (Westport, Mass.) took a throw in and found junior Jepherson Cardoso (Framingham, Mass.) who redirected the ball into the back of the net.

Mass. Maritime outshot the Rams 21-17 in the game, but the Rams held a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Junior Sam Yoder (Southbridge, Mass.) picked up his first victory of the season in net making 16 stops en route to the shutout, while his Buccaneer counterpart Brett Young (Falmouth, Mass.) made 12 stops in a losing effort.

The Rams return to action on Wednesday as they travel to Babson College at 4 p.m., while the Buccaneers are off until next Saturday when they travel to Westfield State at 6 p.m.
