Men's Soccer Falls to WPI 3-1

Men's Soccer Falls to WPI 3-1

Worcester, Mass. - Jason Hopkins (Mendon, Mass.) and Chris Ciampa (Danvers, Mass.) each registered their fourth goal of the season to propel host WPI to a 3-1 victory over Framingham State in a non-conference men's soccer contest played on a sun-soaked Alumni Field Saturday morning.   WPI remains undefeated as it moves to 4-0 on the year while the visiting Rams slip to 0-2-1.

For the fourth time in as many outings this fall, WPI dented the scoring column in the opening 15th minutes when Stephen Partridge (Worcester, Mass.) found a streaking Hopkins down the left side who tucked it past the Framingham State netminder at 14:45.  The Engineers pushed their advantage to 2-0 on an own goal off a defensive miscue following a Kevin Ducharme (Bedford, Mass.) throw in.

Framingham State drew back within a goal when Ronaldo Vieira (Framingham, Mass.) drew a foul in the box and successfully converted a penalty kick for his second marker of the 2011 season at 28:21.

WPI picked up a key insurance goal at 82:17 when Chris Savoia (Pembroke, Mass.) flicked a ball past a defender to Ciampa, who buried his 12th career goal.

Jeff Wong (Millington, NJ) totaled four saves in net for the Crimson and Gray en route to picking up his third win of season.  Sam Yoder (Southbridge, Mass.) and Billy Levitsky (Westford, Mass.) each played a half in net for the Rams with Yoder repelling four shots during the opening stanza.

WPI enjoyed a 13-8 advantage in shots while Framingham State had a 6-4 edge in corner kicks.

WPI is back in action on Wednesday at 7 p.m., traveling to Waltham to take on Brandeis.  Framingham State closes out a three-game road trip on Thursday when they face Roger Williams at 7 p.m.
