Five Rams Named to MASCAC Men’s Soccer All-Conference Team - Silva Selected Men’s Soccer Player of the Year

Buzzards Bay, Mass. - Junior forward Jason Silva (Northbridge, Mass.) was named the 2009 Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men's Soccer Player of the Year and headlines the league's all-conference squad in a vote taken of the conference's eight coaches.

Joining Silva on the 2009 MASCAC first team all-conference squad were teammates Scott Faria (Fall River, Mass.), who was recognized among the midfielders in the league, and junior back Joel Kayima (Malden, Mass.).

Junior goalkeeper Greg Halle (Beverly, Mass.) and freshman midfielder Will Menter (Haverhill, Mass.) were named second team all-conference.

Silva, who was the 2007 MASCAC Rookie of the Year, posted seven goals and five assists for 19 points during the regular season.  He was selected the conference player of the week once and netted three game-winning goals in leading the Rams to an 8-8-2 record including five wins in the conference.

Faria receives all-conference accolades for the third time in his career as he leads the Rams in scoring this season with nine goals and six assists for 24 points.  Kayima, who is honored for the first time in his three seasons, moved from midfield to defender this season is part of the Rams defense that has given up just 26 goals this season.

Halle receives a second team nod for the second straight season, while Mentor receives his first selection.  Halle battled an injury early this season but is still among the conference leaders with a goals against average of 1.36 and four shutouts.
