Faria’s Goal Lifts Men’s Soccer Over Clark

Box Score

Framingham, Mass. - Junior Scott Faria (Fall River, Mass.) scored the game winner just over five minutes into overtime to lift the Framingham State College men's soccer team to a 3-2 non-conference win over Clark University on a  rain soaked Maple Street Field this afternoon. With the win, the Rams improve to 7-8-2 on the season, while Clark moves to 9-6-1 with the loss.

Clark University took a 1-0 lead in the 30th minute of play as sophomore midfielder Kenny Howard (Longmeadow, Mass.) scored an unassisted goal.  Clark's lead would not last long as it took the Rams two minutes to tie the score.  Freshman Chris Wilkins (Heath, Mass.) gathered a rebound in front of the net and knocked it home for his second goal of the season.

The Rams outshot Clark 20-14 on the day, but it was Clark who was able capitalize on a scoring chance first in the second half to pull ahead.  In the 66th minute Mike Trobagis (Acton, Mass.) collected a loose ball in the box and deposited it in the back of the net giving Clark a 2-1 lead.

Clark would maintain their lead until the closing minutes when the Rams were able to generate back to back corners.  After the second corner, Brunno Goncalves (Framingham, Mass.) sent a cross into the box that Rob O'Doherty (Shrewsbury, Mass.) knocked home to tie the game and force overtime.

In the extra session, the Rams continued their offensive pressure and five minutes in Peter Maranto (Haverhill, Mass.) was able to connect with Faria for the game winner.

Junior Greg Halle (Beverly, Mass.) made seven saves in the game and picked up the win in net for the Rams, while Ryan King (Brimfield, Mass.) also made seven saves in a losing effort for the Cougars.

The Rams return to action on Saturday as the close out the regular season at Fitchburg State at 11 a.m., while the Cougars await the results of this weekend's NEWMAC games to see who they will face in the NEWMAC Tournament next week.
