Men’s Soccer Falls to Keene State, 2-0

Box Score

Framingham, Mass. - The Framingham State College men's soccer team was shutout today at home 2-0 by the Keene State College Owls in non-conference men's soccer action at Maple Street Field.  The Owls improve to 10-6 on the season with the win, and the loss snaps a three game winning streak for the Rams who are now 6-8-1 on the season.

Keene State's offense controlled the pace of play from the onset and the Owls were able to take a 1-0 lead just 9:06 into the contest.  Freshman forward Shawn Shand (Keene, NH) moved through the Rams defense and scored his eighth goal of the season, an unassisted tally that proved to be the game winner.

The Rams had a chance to tie the score just before the half as junior Scott Faria (Fall River, Mass.) sent a corner into the box.  Midfielder Rob O'Doherty (Shrewsbury, Mass.) headed the ball past the Owls goal keeper but freshman Danny Silverman (Maynard, Mass.) was there on the post to knock the attempt away and maintain the Owls 1-0 lead.

The Owls had a chance to extend their lead in the opening minutes of the second half but Framingham State goal keeper Greg Halle (Beverly, Mass.), who made five saves on the day, came off his line and made the save on Joe Senecal's (Manchaug, Mass.) breakaway opportunity.

In the 62nd minute the Owls were finally able to capitalize on a scoring chance when junior Luke Sisco (Pine Plains, NY) fired a shot that deflected off Halle and rolled in to the net for the 2-0 lead.

Keene State junior Tom Conran (South Windsor, Conn.) made three saves in the game and picked up his third shutout win of the season.  Freshman Sam Yoder (Southbridge, Mass.) split time in net with Halle and made two saves.

The Rams return to action on Saturday as they host MASCAC rival Bridgewater State at noon, while the Owls host Western Connecticut in Little East Conference match at 1 p.m.
