Silva’s Hat Trick Lifts Men’s Soccer Over Salem State

Framingham, Mass. - Junior forward Jason Silva (Northbridge, Mass.) notched his first hat trick of the season to propel the Framingham State College men's soccer team to a 5-0 win over the Salem State College Vikings in Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action this afternoon at Maple Street Field.  Both teams are now 3-1 in conference and are tied with Westfield State in second place in the standings.

The Rams (4-7-1) outshot the Vikings 19-13 on the day.  Junior Greg Halle (Beverly, Mass.) was outstanding in net for the Rams as he made eight saves and picked up his third shutout of the season.  Freshman Scott Hall (Waltham, Mass.) got the start in goal for the Vikings (5-5) and made six saves while allowing five goals before giving way to junior Luis Marques (Fall River, Mass.) who made two saves in 18 minutes of work.

Silva scored the game winner in the 17th minute as he took a feed from freshman back Will Menter (Haverhill, Mass.) and connected for his fourth of the season.  Senior back Constantine Tzortzis (Topsfield, Mass.) connected with Silva in the 23rd minute to give the Rams a 2-0 lead that they would take into the break.

Silva extended the Rams lead to three goals in the 55th minute as he finished off the hat trick with his sixth goal of the season.  Junior midfielder Scott Faria (Fall River, Mass.) assisted on Silva's third tally.

Faria would score twice for the Rams in the 61st and 72nd minutes to reach the final margin of 5-0.  Freshman Erick Nader (Framingham, Mass.) assisted on Faria's first goal and sophomore midfielder Peter Maranto (Haverhill, Mass.) assisted on the second.

The Rams return to action on Wednesday as they travel to UMass Boston at 3:30 p.m., while the Vikings host Rhode Island College on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
