Men's Soccer Earns Second Seed in ECAC New England Men's Soccer Championship

Framingham, MA - The Framingham State College men's soccer team was selected to participate in the 2007 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) New England Men's Soccer Tournament.  The #2 seed Rams will host #7 seed Colby-Sawyer College in a quarterfinal match on Wednesday, November 7th, at 1 pm on Maple Street Field. 

The Rams, who were the 2007 Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Regular Season Champions, set a school record for wins this season as they compiled an overall record of 13-4-1 and were the top seed in the MASCAC Men's Soccer Tournament where they were upset in the first round by the eventual tournament champion, Bridgewater State.

Fifth year head coach Dean Nichols was selected the 2007 MASCAC Men's Soccer Coach of the Year as he guided the Rams to their best season to date.  The Rams led the conference in most major statistical categories including most points, goals, goals per game, assists, assists per game, shutouts, fewest goals allowed and lowest goals against average.

The Rams high powered offense was led by the duo of junior forward Johnny Goncalves (Framingham, MA) and freshman midfielder Jason Silva (Milford, MA), who were both selected First Team All-MASCAC.  Goncalves was the conference leader in points, points per game, goals and goals per game as he scored 14 goals and picked up five assists.  Silva, who was selected the 2007 MASCAC Men's Soccer Rookie of the Year, was second in the conference in goals and points as he collected 12 goals and six assists in his first collegiate season.  Joining Silva and Goncalves on the First Team was junior defender Stephen Rosenthal (Stoneham, MA).  The Rams also had two athletes selected Second Team All-MASCAC, goalkeeper Eddie Palomba (Saugus, MA) and midfielder Scott Faria (New Bedford, MA)

Rounding out the field for the ECAC New England Tournament are (#1) Norwich University who will host (#8) Becker College on Wednesday at 1 p.m., (#4) Worcester State who will host (#5) Coast Guard and (#3) Wentworth who hosts (#6) Southern Maine also on Wednesday at 6 p.m.  The winners of the four quarter final games advance to the semifinals which will be played on Saturday with the two semifinal winners meeting Sunday for the Championship.
