Men's Soccer Captures MASCAC Regular Season Title

Framingham, MA - The Framingham State College men's soccer team clinched the Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Regular Season men's soccer championship and secured the top seed in the upcoming MASCAC men's soccer tournament with a 4-1 win today at home on Maple Street Field over the visiting Bears of Bridgewater State College.  The Rams (13-3-1, 6-1 MASCAC) finished the regular season with a school record 13 wins and the most conference wins (6) since 1973.

Freshman Joel Kayima (Malden, MA) put the Rams up 1-0 in the 20th minute of play as he took a cross from fellow freshman Scott Faria (Fall River, MA) and flicked the ball past the Bears keeper for his fourth goal of the season.  The Rams would strike again six minutes later as freshman Jason Silva (Milford, MA) took a cross from junior forward Johnny Goncalves (Framingham, MA) and headed the ball in for his 12th goal of the season.  The Rams offensive pressure did not let up as they extended their lead to 3-0 in the 31st minute on a goal from senior Rob Harvey (Lakeville, MA).

Bridgewater State cut the Rams lead to 3-1 just 19 seconds into the second half as Stephen Sciara (Scituate, MA) took a pass from Dominic Sciara (Scituate, MA) and found the back of the net for his 2nd goal of the season.  The Rams would regain the three goal advantage just three minutes later as Kayima scored his second goal of the day. Harvey assisted on the Kayima tally.

Senior goalie Eddie Palomba (Saugus, MA) made three saves while picking up his 13th win of the season, while Ryan Seifert (Ludlow, MA) also made three saves in the losing effort.

The Rams return to action on Wednesday as they open up the MASCAC Men's Soccer Tournament as the top seed at home against fourth seed Bridgewater State.
