Men's Soccer Picks Up First Win of the Season With 5-0 Shutout of Elms

Framingham, MA- The Framingham State College men's soccer team picked up their first win of the young season at home today on Maple Street Field with a 5-0 shutout win over the visiting Blazers of Elms College, who were taking the field for their first game of the season.

Framingham State College (1-1) dominated play on the day as they outshot their opponents 17-6 in the game and held a decisive advantage in corner kicks as the Rams had nine and the Blazers only had two.

The Rams jumped into the scoring column in the 26th minute as freshman midfielder Scott Faria (Fall River, MA) found the back of the net off of a nice feed from senior forward Rob Harvey (Lakeville, MA).  The goal would be all the Rams needed on the day to secure the win but they added a second goal less than two minutes later as freshman Jason Silva (Milford, MA) scored his second goal of the season.  The Rams would extend their lead to 3-0 late in the first half when freshman Joel Kayima (Malden, MA) found senior Derek Pingitore (Auburn, MA) alone in front of the net and Pingitore was able to knock it home for his first goal of the season.

The Rams would add two goals in the second half both by junior forward Johnny Goncalves (Framingham, MA).  The first came in the 58th minute as Goncalves converted a penalty kick and the second in the 72nd minutes as junior Michael Jones (Norwood, MA) made a nice pass to Goncalves who converted for his second goal of the day.

Elms College goalkeeper Nick Pellegrini (Ludlow, MA) made eight saves in the losing effort, while Framingham netminder Eddie Palomba (Saugus, MA) only had to make three to pick up his first shutout win of the season.

The Rams return to action on Tuesday as they travel to Johnson & Wales for a 7 p.m. game, while the Blazers travel to Rivier on Monday.
