Late Flurry Leads Men’s Ice Hockey to 4-4 Draw; Win Shootout vs. Rivier

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. – The Framingham State men's ice hockey team battled Rivier to a 4-4 draw on Saturday night at home, eventually securing a shootout victory to earn an extra point in the conference standings. 

Prior to the game the Rams honored their nine seniors playing in their final season: Devante Dixon (Aurora, CO), Spencer Lintonsmith (Lone Tree, CO), Kaleb Kinskey (Ankeny, IA), Walker Smith (Inver Grove Heights, MN), Tyler Westfall (Annondale, VA), Jordan Guigui (Buffalo, NY), Caleb Dusek (Dallas, TX), Ashton Collazo (Victor, NY) & Jeremy McDonald (Lockport, NY).  

THE BASICS: 

  • Final Score: Framingham State 4, Rivier 4 (2OT) – Framingham State wins shootout 1-0

  • Records: Framingham State (2-17-3, 1-12-2), Rivier (6-15-2, 2-12-2) 

  • Location: Loring Arena – Framingham, Mass. 

 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

1st Period:  

  • Rivier responded late in the period, cutting the deficit to 2-1 at 19:34 when Cody Rumsey scored off assists from Jon Tavella. 

2nd Period: 

  • Rivier answered back quickly at 14:46, as Carter Poulin found the net, assisted by Ryan Nolte, to bring the score to 3-2. 

3rd Period: 

  • Rivier tied the game at 15:13 with a goal from Jake Laville, set up by Cormac Hayes.  

  • Rivier responded again at 16:56, with Jake Laville scoring his second goal of the period, unassisted, to send the game into overtime at 4-4. 

Overtime & Shootout: 

  • Neither team was able to break through in either overtime period, forcing a shootout. 

  • Framingham State's Scott Bugarin was the lone scorer in the shootout, securing the extra point for the Rams.

  • Jake Laville: 2 goals 

  • Cody Rumsey: 1 goal 

  • Carter Poulin: 1 goal 

  • Jon Tavella & Ryan Nolte: 1 assist each

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • Framingham State outshot Rivier 50-39. 

  • The Rams went 1-for-3 on the power play, while Rivier was 0-for-1. 

  • Faceoffs were evenly split at 37-36 in favor of Rivier. 

  • Both teams combined for 12 penalty minutes.

The Rams return to the ice on Monday when they travel to Fitchburg State for MASCAC clash. The game is a makeup of the game that was scheduled on February 6th.
