Fitchburg, Mass. - Fitchburg State surged early with a commanding first period and maintained control throughout, defeating Framingham State 5-1 in MASCAC men's ice hockey action Saturday evening at Wallace Civic Center. 

THE BASICS:

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

1st Period: 

  • 02:00 – Framingham State struck first with a power-play goal by Sam Larkin, assisted by Robert Bernier and Scott Bugarin, for an early 1-0 lead. 

  • 04:30 – Fitchburg State answered quickly, as Hunter Dunn scored off assists from Elowan Orme Lynch and Samuel Rennick to tie the game. 

  • 12:40 – On the power play, Elowan Orme Lynch capitalized with a goal, set up by Jack Johansen and Nicholas Weber, giving Fitchburg State a 2-1 advantage.  

  • 13:34 – Marcus Macchioni extended the lead with a goal assisted by Rennick and Nicklas Millhorn, making it 3-1. 

  • 18:01 – Samuel Rennick capped off a dominant first period with a goal assisted by Macchioni, putting Fitchburg State up 4-1. 

2nd Period: 

  • 01:21 – Fitchburg State's Declan Bronte added to the lead early in the period, scoring with help from Alexandre Bauvais to make it 5-1. 

3rd Period: 

  • No goals were scored as Fitchburg State's defense and goaltending shut down any comeback attempts from Framingham State. 

KEY PERFORMERS: 

Fitchburg State: 

  • Frederick Soderberg: Stellar in net, making 25 saves for his sixth win of the season. 

  • Marcus Macchioni: 1 goal, 1 assist, strong presence on both ends. 

  • Elowan Orme Lynch: 1 goal, 1 assist, led the power play. 

Framingham State: 

  • Sam Larkin: Scored the Rams' lone goal on the power play. 

 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • Shots on Goal: Even at 26 apiece. 

  • Special Teams: Framingham State went 1-for-5 on the power play; Fitchburg State went 1-for-8. 

  • Penalties: Framingham State logged 31 minutes on 10 infractions, including a match penalty, while Fitchburg State served 12 minutes on six infractions.
