Men’s Ice Hockey Edged by SNHU in Season Opener

Framingham, MA – Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) took a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Framingham State in their season opener on Saturday evening at Loring Arena. Despite a strong comeback attempt by the Rams, SNHU held on to secure the win. 

THE BASICS: 

  • Score: Southern N.H. 3, Framingham St. 2 

  • Records: Southern N.H. (1-0-0), Framingham St. (0-1-0) 

  • Location: Loring Arena - Framingham, MA  

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • First Period: Southern N.H. took an early lead with a goal from Ryan Clear, scoring unassisted at 18:35. 

  • Second Period: Framingham's Jake Barcelou tied the game at 4:18 with an assist from Charles DiMartino. SNHU regained the lead with a goal by Brendan Lynch at 16:25, assisted by Derek Flynn. 

  • Third Period: Framingham's Ashton Collazo tied the game at 3:28 with an unassisted goal, but SNHU's Austin Hirschberger scored the game-winner at 8:34, assisted by Ryan Pomposelli. 

 

KEY PERFORMERS: 

Southern N.H.:  

  • Ryan Clear, Brendan Lynch, Austin Hirschberger each scored a goal, contributing to SNHU's balanced attack. 

 

  • Goalie Collin Berke recorded 34 saves on 36 shots for the win.

Framingham St.:  

 
  • Goalie Liam Kilgallen made 28 saves, keeping Framingham in contention.  

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • Shots: Framingham outshot SNHU 36 to 31, putting up a strong second-half effort. 

  • Power Plays: Southern N.H. converted 1 out of 6 power plays (16.7%), while Framingham was unsuccessful on 3 power-play attempts.
