Plymouth State Skated by Ice Hockey on Senior Day

Framingham, Mass.. – The Plymouth State men's ice hockey team, ranked 15th nationally, defeated the Framingham State Rams by a score of 7-1 Saturday afternoon at Loring Arena. With the win the Panthers improve to 18-4-2 and 14-2-1 in league play. The Rams are now 3-19-2 and 2-15 in the MASCAC 

Prior to the contest the Rams honored the five seniors playing in their final home game at Loring Arena: Jake McKinnon (Framingham, Mass.), Derek Ridgway (Franklin, Mass.) Zack D'Errico (Concord, NH), Tyler Colacchio (Bellingham, Mass.) and Jake Sartorelli (Chelmsford, Mass.)

The Panthers struck first, after killing off an extended 5-on-3 power play Hunter Gunski (Goffstown, NH) scored the games first goal with assists from Christian La Croix (Northford, Conn.) and Tim Perron (Northborough, Mass.).

The Rams answered just over two minutes later when Matt Siegel (Syracuse, NY) scored with Ryan McDonough (Dorchester, Mass.) assisting.

Perron scored on the power play a few moments later with an assist from Michael Covach (Shillington, PA) to skate into the first intermission up 2-1.

The Panthers added two more in the second frame. First Ryan Stevens (Colleyville, TX) scored in the opening minute with help from Marc Happy (Sterling, Mass.). Then about midway through the period JR Barone (West Chester, PA) scored a short handed unassisted goal to move the Panthers lead to 4-1.

The Panthers added three more in the third period. Chris Zuccaro (Hudson, NH), Stevens and Ludvig Steenberg (Stockholm, Sweden) all scored in the final frame.

Even Morelli (Reading, Mass.) turned away 24 shots in the win for the Panthers. Adam Calabrese (Philadelphia, PA) made 41 stops in net for the Rams. 

The Panthers were 1-for-4 on the man advantage and added a shorthanded goal. The Rams were 0-for-5 on the power play.

The Panthers close the regular season on Tuesday, February 20th when they host Westfield State. The Rams will travel to Salem on the same day to wrap-up their 2017-18 campaign.
