Hockey Blanked by Salem State

Framingham, Mass. – Salem State scored two second period goals to skate to a 2-0 shutout over Framingham State Saturday afternoon at Loring Arena. With the win the Vikings improve to 8-8-3 and 5-6-1 in the league. The Rams are now 3-13-2 and 2-9 in the MASCAC 

After a scoreless first stanza the Vikings broke through in the 13th minute of the second when Ryan Wilkinson score a power play goal with assists from Daniel Campbell and Dan Holland. The visitors struck again with just over a minute to play in the second, again on the power play, as Michael Casale found the back of the net with help from Callum Hofford and Campbell.

The Rams pulled their goalie towards the end of the third but couldn't find the back of the net. Jason Pucciarelli turned away 24 shots in the shutout victory for the Vikings. Greg Harney (East Haven, Conn.) made 29 saves in the tough luck loss for the Rams.

The Vikings took advantage of the Rams ten penalties going two-for-nine on the power play. The Rams were 0-for-4 on the man advantage.

The Rams return to the ice on Tuesday, January 30th when they travel to Westfield State. The Vikings are idle Tuesday and travel to Westfield on Thursday, February 1st.
