Framingham, Mass. – Framingham State freshman forward Ryan Paul (Morgan, VT) scored the overtime winner after junior Ryan McDonough (Dorchester, Mass.) tied the game with 16 seconds to play as the Rams upset Worcester State 3-2 in MASCAC action Thursday evening at Loring Arena. With the win the Rams improve to 3-9-2 and 2-5 in league action. The Lancers are now 10-3 and 5-3 in MASCAC play.

The Lancers got on the board in the first period when Jake Karelas (Melrose, Mass.) knocked in his own rebound with helpers from Ryan James (Katy, TX) and Trey Palczynski (Coral Springs, Fla.). The Rams answered a few moments later when Walker Hamilton (Anchorage, AK) scored on the power play with help from Ryan Paul.

The Lancers finally broke through early in the third after the Rams failed to convert on multiple power play opportunities. James sent in a one-time pass from Nick Patullo (Doylestown, PA) on a 2-on-1 break to take a 2-1 lead.

As the 3rd period drew on it looked like the Lancers would be able to hold on as the Rams were called for a back-to –back minor penalty with just over five minutes to play. After killing off both power plays the Rams pulled their goalie and McDonough buried a shot in the back of the net with 16 ticks left.

In the opening minute of the overtime period Paul sent a shot just under the right arm of Worcester goalie Josh Reinstein (Woodland Hills, CA) off a pass from Brandon Hamner (Waltham, Mass.) to win the game for the Rams.

Adam Calabrese (Philadelphia, PA) made 31 stops in the win for the Rams. Reinstein turned away 23 shots in the setback for the Lancers.

The Rams were 1-for-5 on the power play while the Lancers were unable to convert on all five of their opportunities.

Worcester outshot the hosts 33-to-26 in the game but the Rams held the advantage in shots in every period after the first.

The Rams are idle until next Thursday, January 18th when they host Fitchburg State. The Lancers will host Salem State in MASCAC play on Saturday, January 13th.
