West Springfield, Mass.. – The Framingham State men's ice hockey team fell in non-conference action Saturday afternoon at Western New England by a score of 5-2. The Golden Bears are now 5-9-1 as the Rams fall to 2-9-2.
Andrew Green scored the lone goal of the 1st period with an assist from Edmond Rogers to put the Golden Bears up 1-0. The hosts skated to a 3-0 lead after the second period thanks to a Steve Beck power play goal and Stefan Koproske tally.
The Rams answered early in the third period to cut the deficit to 3-1 when Tyler Colacchio (Bellingham, Mass.) scored off an assist from Matt Siegel (Syracuse, NY).
Western NE stretched the lead back to three with a Matt O'Dea score a few moments later. The Rams tried to make a late push when Walker Hamilton (Anchorage, AK) scored unassisted to again cut the Golden Bears lead to two but Andrew Green answered seconds later to reach the final 5-2 margin.
Kevin Gollmer earned the win making 19 saves for WNE. Greg Harney (East Haven, Conn.) turned away 41 shots for the Rams.
The Rams were 0-for-3 on the man-advantage but WNE was able to convert twice in five opportunities.
The Rams will host Worcester State on Thursday, January 11th in MASCAC action at 7:30.
