Red Dragons Score 5 Straight Goals to Blow by Men’s Ice Hockey

Binghamton, NY. – Six different players scored goals as the Cortland Red Dragons defeated Framingham State by a score of 6-2 Saturday afternoon during the opening round of the Binghamton Devils tournament. The Red Dragons (2-6) advance to play Amherst College in the winners bracket Sunday while the Rams (2-5-2) draw Nichols in the consolation round.

The Rams jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Ryan McDonough (Dorchester, Mass.) scored late in the 1st period with help from Jake McKinnon (Framingham, Mass.).

Scott Docherty tied the score early in the 2nd but the Rams countered with a Soren Colstrup (Owatonna, Minn.) score about halfway through the frame. The Red Dragons then rattled off three straight goals in the last half of the 2nd and two more in the 3rd to reach the 6-2 margin.

Greg Harney (East Haven, Conn.) turned away 26 shots in the loss for the Rams. Drew Weigman made 16 stops for Cortland.

The Red Dragons took advantage of the Rams on special teams going 2-for-7 on the power play. The Rams were 0-for-2 on the man advantage.
