Muggli Stops 37 in 4-1 Victory Over Fitchburg

Framingham, Mass. – Framingham State University sophomore goalie Alessio Muggli (Rueti, Switzerland) made 37 saves in a 4-1 victory over Fitchburg State in MASCAC play Thursday night in Framingham.

With the win the Rams improve to 6-14-2 with a 5-10-1 clip in the league. The Falcons slip to 10-11-2 with an 8-6-1 mark in conference play.

The Falcons heavily outskated the Rams in the first two periods outshooting them a combined 28-12 after the first two frames. However, Framingham State entered the second intermission with a 1-0 advantage thanks to a Keith Barnaby (Leominster) power-play goal. Brendan McCarron (Millbury) and Ryan McDonald (Ankorage, AK) were credited with assists.

The Rams tuned up the energy in the third frame scoring in the second minute of play when Tyler Colacchio (Bellingham) scored with an assist coming from Jay Nicholls (Middleton). Just over two minutes later the Rams struck again when McCarron found the back of the net with a wraparound goal to chase Falcons goalie Ryan Wysocki (Grand Rapids, MI). Barnaby and McDonald earned assists on the score.

Fitchburg answered in the sixth minute of play when Sean Loebs (Cresskill, NJ) beat Muggli high with help from Jordan Furlane (Oakville, ON) to put the Falcons on the board. After four alternating unsuccessful power plays the Falcons pulled their goalie and the Rams capitalized when Ricky O'Connor (North Andover) scored an empty-netter to seal the win with just over 2 minutes to play. McDonald and Rich Hill (Tampa, FL) were credited with assists on the O'Connor score.

Muggli turned away 37-of-38 shots faced on the night for the Rams. Wysocki made 17 saves and allowed 3 goals in 44:20 and Dan Finn (Fitchburg) turned away all 6 shots he faced in 14:09 in relief.

The Rams were 1-for-4 on the man advantage and the Falcons were unable to capitalize on all 7 of their man-up opportunities.

The Falcons return to the ice on Saturday, February 21st as they travel to Salem State for MASCAC action. The Rams will host Plymouth State on same day scheduled for a 7:40 p.m. start. The Rams will honor their seven seniors prior to the game Saturday.
