Ice Hockey Blanks Assumption, 4-0

Worcester, Mass. – The Framingham State University ice team tallied a pair of power play goals as the Rams defeated Assumption College 4-0 on the road this evening in non-conference action.

With the win the Rams are now 5-13-4 on the year, while the Greyhounds fall to 12-9-1.

Sophomore goaltender Nick Cafrelli (San Jose, CA) recorded the shutout between the pipes as he turned away all 32 shots Assumption sent his way. The Rams outshot the Greyhounds 41-32 in the game including a 16-9 edge in the first period.

Freshmen forwards Dylan Cosford (Windsor, ON) and Brendan McCarron (Millbury, Mass.) and sophomore defenseman Bo Driscoll (Chelmsford, Mass.) each picked up a pair of points in the game with Cosford and McCarron tallying a goal and an assist apiece and Driscoll dishing out two helpers.

The Rams took the lead for good midway through the first period on a power play goal from McCarron off assists from Cosford and Driscoll. The goal would prove to be the game winner for the Rams as they took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.

Senior forward Aran Ward (Dunstable, Mass.) doubled the Rams lead just 51 seconds into the second with an unassisted tally.  Sophomore forward Eric Ward (Haverhill, Mass.) pushed the Rams lead to 3-0 with his goal at 7:36 of the second.  McCarron and sophomore Daniel Miressi (Monroe, Conn.) assisted on the score.

Cosford added a power play goal off a Driscoll helper in the opening minutes of the third to reach the final margin of 4-0.  The shutout is Cafrelli's and the Rams second of the season.

The Rams were 2-of-4 on power play opportunities in the game, while the Greyhounds were 0-of-6 with the man advantage.  Nick Blanchette picked up the loss for the Greyhounds as he made 37 saves.

The Rams return to action on Saturday at MASCAC foe Salem State University with the faceoff slated for 2 p.m.
