Ice Hockey Rallies from Two Goals Down to Earn 5-5 Draw with Stonehill

Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State University ice hockey team rallied from a two goal deficit in the second period to earn a 5-5 overtime draw with Stonehill College this evening in non-conference men's ice hockey action at Loring Arena.

With the draw, the Rams are now 1-4-2 on the year, while the Skyhawks are 3-6-1.

Freshman forward Ryan McDonald (Anchorage, AK) tallied a pair of goals to lead the Rams offense, while classmate Brendan McCarron (Millbury, Mass.) and junior Ben Pacific (Marlboro, Mass.) each picked up a pair of assists in the game.

Senior forward Patrick Greene (Weymouth, Mass.) led the Skyhawks with three points in the contest on a goal and a pair of helpers, while Kevin Aufiero (Canton, Mass.) and Bill Carey (Weymouth, Mass.) each tallied a goal and an assist.

Stonehill jumped out to a 2-0 lead just under eight minutes into the game.  Aufiero scored just 1:08 into the contest on assists from Bryan Rooney (Canton, Mass.) and Dana Borges (Taunton, Mass.) and Fabio Cuetara (Irvine, CA) tallied his second of the season at 8:40.

The Rams answered with a pair of goals of their own to send the game into the first intermission knotted at 2-2.  McDonald tallied his first of the game at 11:42 off assists from McCarron and senior Aran Ward (Dunstable, Mass.).  Freshman Dylan Cosford (Windsor, Ontario) tallied his first collegiate goal at 19:23 of the first to tie the score.

Framingham State took their first lead of the game 5:31 into the second on sophomore Matt Margolis' (Raleigh, NC) first goal of the season, but their lead would be short lived a J.J. Sabin (Milton, Mass.) tied the score for the Skyhawks a minute later.

Stonehill would add two more midway through the second to retake a two goal lead.  Greene scored on the power play at 10:52 and just over a minute later Carey scored off a Greene assist to make the score 5-3 in favor of the visitors.

Stonehill maintained the two goal advantage until the middle of the third period when sophomore Bo Driscoll (Chelmsford, Mass.) cut the lead in half with his goal at 7:49 and McDonald tied the game off a McCarron assist at 10:09.  Neither team was able to break the deadlock down the stretch forcing overtime.

The Skyhawks outshot the Rams in the extra session 2-1, but the Rams held a 41-33 advantage in shots for the whole game.  Senior Todd Rowley (Billerica, Mass.) went the distance in goal for the Rams earning his first draw of the season while making 28 saves.  Senior Tyler Jackson (Little Silver, NJ) made 36 stops for the Skyhawks as he also picked up his first draw of the season.

The Rams return to conference action on Thursday night when they host Salem State at Loring Arena at 7:30 p.m., while the Skyhawks travel to Western New England on Thursday at 7:15 p.m.
