Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State University ice hockey team battled Fitchburg State University to a 1-1 draw this evening in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) men's ice hockey action at Framingham's Loring Arena.

With the draw, the Rams are now 0-4-1 on the season and 0-2-1 in the conference, while the Falcons are now 2-4-1 overall and 1-1-1 in the MASCAC.

After a scoreless first period that saw the Falcons outshoot the Rams 15-7, Framingham State's offense came out firing in the second.  Just over five minutes into the period, the Rams had an opportunity to break the scoreless tie as they fired a series of shots on net, but Fitchburg State goaltender Bobby Leiser (Monroe, NY) turned away the Rams first two shots before the net came off ending the Rams scoring chance.

The Rams once again had a chance to strike first midway through the period as senior defenseman Al Cutts (Avon, Mass.) had a clean shot at the net from the right wing, but Leiser came up with the glove save.

The Falcons offense responded and finally connected for the game's first goal. With 2:15 remaining in the second sophomore Shawn Bradley (Lawrence, Mass.) sent the puck up the ice to junior Trevor Lawlor (Fitchburg, Mass.) and Lawlor found the back of the net for his second of the season.

Fitchburg State would take the 1-0 lead into the second intermission and hold the lead until midway through the third.  With 10:33 remaining in regulation sophomore forward Daniel Miressi (Monroe, Conn.) hit junior Ben Pacific (Marlboro, Mass.) with a pass and Pacific found sophomore Bo Driscoll (Chelmsford, Mass.) on the wing.  Driscoll fired a shot under the crossbar into the net tying the game at 1-1.

The Rams appeared to score what would have been the game winner with 1:00 remaining in regulation, but the goal was waved off and the game would go to overtime.

In the extra session, both teams had one shot on goal, but neither was able to find the back of the net.  The Rams best chance to score came with less than a minute remaining when Miressi had the puck alone on the wing and fired a shot that went just wide of the goal.

The Falcons outshot the Rams 45-36 in the game. Framingham State sophomore goaltender Nick Cafrelli (San Jose, CA) had an outstanding game making 44 saves and earning the draw, while Leiser finished with 35 for the Falcons.

The Rams return to action Thursday night at Worcester State at 5:30 p.m., while the Falcons host UMass Dartmouth on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m.
