Men's Basketball Comeback Falls Short Against Regis

Framingham, Mass.  The Framingham State University men's basketball team rallied from a double-digit deficit to pull within six in the closing minutes, but could not get any closer as Regis College held on for a 68-60 victory in non-conference action tonight at the Athletic Center  

THE BASICS:

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • The Rams were led offensively by a game-high 19 points off the bench from Javaris Hill. Hill connected on 9-of-12 from the field and added five rebounds, a steal and a block. 

  • JD Okafor tallied 15 points and narrowly missed a double-double as he grabbed nine rebounds, while Marshall Martin also just missed a double-double with his 12 points and nine boards. 

  • The Pride were led by 15 points and eight boards from Russell Rau. Rau connected on 5-of-11 from the field and 2-of-4 from behind the arc. 

  • Justin Evelyn tallied 13 points and four assists with three steals, while Tate Pike contributed 12 points off the bench and Joshua Perez added 10. 

  • The Rams shot 51% from the field in the game and 40% from behind the arc, while Regis, who shot 50% from the field in the first half, shot 41% from the floor for the game. 

 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • The Rams led 12-9 with just over 11 minutes remaining in the first half after a bucket by Okafor. 

  • Regis rattled off a 17-4 run over the next four minutes taking a 26-16 lead with just over seven remaining in the opening stanza.  The run featured four threes including a pair from Zakaria Latifi. 

  • Regis extended the lead to 18 (36-18) on a Rau layup with 3:28 left in the half.  The Rams used a pair of threes from Dominique Jenkins-Maxwell to close the gap to 12 with just over two minutes remaining. 

  • Regis, who connected on 8-of-13- from behind the arc in the opening half, pushed the lead back to 15 at the break. 

  • The Rams opened the second half with a 13-3 run cutting the deficit to 42-37 with just over 13 left on the clock. A Perez three quickly pushed the lead back to eight for the Pride. 

  • Framingham State cut the deficit to four, on a Jahden Erold layup with 10:19 on the clock.  

  • Regis pushed the lead back to 12 (59-47) on another Rau three-pointer with just over eight minutes remaining. 

  • The Rams cut the deficit back to six, 64-58, on a three-pointer by Erold and a pair of Martin free throws with 2:36 on the clock. 

  • That was as close as the Rams would get down the stretch as Regis held on for the victory.

The Rams are back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Anna Maria at 6 p.m., while the Pride host Dean College on Wednesday at 8 p.m.
