Wheaton Defeats Men’s Basketball 83-64

Framingham, Mass.  The Framingham State University men's basketball team was defeated at home this evening 83-64 by Wheaton College in non-conference action at the Athletic Center.  

THE BASICS:

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • The Lyons saw four players score double figures led by a game-high 27 points from Alex Carlisle.  Carlisle connected on 9-of-13 from the floor including 3-of-4 from behind the arc to go along with four rebounds, five assists and two steals. 

  • Duncan Baker and Aaron Williams tallied 14 points apiece for the Lyons, while Marckenley Lima added 12. 

  • The Rams were paced by 19 points from JD Okafor. Okafor connected on 7-of-12 from the floor and added five boards and a steal. 

  • Brett Okundaye chipped in with 10 points, eight rebounds and two assists, while Ivan Nyantenji added nine points and three steals. 

  • The Lyons shot 53% from the floor in the game to just 38% for the Rams and held a 27-12 advantage in points off turnovers in the game. 

 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • The first half was back and forth with three ties and five lead changes.  

  • Tied at 13-13, Wheaton used a 10-3 run capped by Williams' three to take a 23-16 with just over 11 minutes on the clock in the first. 

  • The Rams answered with a run of their own capped by a Justin Fitzpatrick three taking a 27-25 lead with 8:02 remaining. 

  • The two teams would trade the lead over the next few minutes before Wheaton closed the frame with a spurt giving them their biggest lead of the half, nine points, on a Williams free throw, before heading to the locker room leading 41-36. 

  • Wheaton extended the lead to 11, 51-40, in the first five minutes of the second half. 

  • The Rams cut the deficit to eight, 59-51, on a pair of free throws from Marshall Martin with 10:42 on the clock, but Wheaton used a 9-0 run to take a 68-51 lead with just under nine remaining.  

  • Wheaton led by as many as 21 late in the second half as they secured the non-conference victory. 

 

UP NEXT: 

The Rams are back in action on Thursday when they travel to Wentworth at 7 p.m., while the Lyons face Bowdoin on Saturday at Western New England.
