Men’s Basketball Drops MASCAC Opener

Framingham, Mass.- The Framingham State men's basketball team dropped their conference opener to Salem State by a score of 63-54 Wednesday evening in Framingham. With the win the Vikings improve to 7-6 (1-0 MASCAC). The Rams slip to 3-10 (0-1 MASCAC).

The Vikings were led by Marcus Faison (Cambridge, Mass.) who scored 17 points, all in the first half, and added 13 rebounds to complete the double-double. Shaquan Murray (Boston, Mass.) added a 12 point performance as the Vikings shot 40.4 percent from the floor (23-for-57).

The Rams received a 15 point contribution from Manny Payton (Fitchburg, Mass.). Tony Alexandre (Hyde Park, Mass.) added a double-double of 10 points and 12 boards while Tyri Hampton (Fitchburg, Mass.) added 10 points. The Rams shot 41.8 percent from the floor (23-of-55).

After an Alexandre layup halfway through the first frame extended the Rams lead to 17-13 the visitors answered with a 9-0 run recapturing the lead and cruising into the break with a 34-25 advantage. The Vikings kept the pace for most of the half but the Rams cut the deficit to 54-50 on a Wesley Obgevoen (Boston, Mass.) trey with just under 7 minutes to go. The Vikings scored the next 6 points to get back to the 10 point lead.

The Rams return to action on Saturday, January 7th when they host Bridgewater State at 1:00 p.m. The Vikings travel to Worcester State on the same day.
