Strong Second Half Propels Fitchburg State Past Men’s Basketball

Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University men's basketball team erupted for 48 second half points as they erased a four point half time deficit to defeat the Framingham State University men's basketball team 77-60 this evening in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action.

With the win, the Falcons improve to 10-8 on the year and move to 3-2 in the conference, while the Rams slip to 4-14 overall all and 1-5 in the MASCAC.

The Rams were led by 12 points from senior Joe McCabe (Canton, Mass.). McCabe connected on 3-of-6 from the floor including 2-of-4 from behind the arc.  Junior Tim Mangano (Winchester, Mass.) chipped in with 11 points on 4-of-9 from the floor, while classmate Daniel Gould (Quincy, Mass.) added 10 points. Sophomore Tony Alexandre (Hyde Park, Mass.) had a solid game with nine points and five boards with a pair of steals.

The Falcons saw all five of their starters record double figures with Josh Bosworth leading the way with 23 points on 10-of-11 from the floor to go along with six boards.  Kwame Lee added 14 points, while Jaleel Bell connected for 11 and five boards.  Leonny Burgos and Givaughn Jones contributed 10 points apiece.

The Rams took their first lead of the game (12-10) on a Tim McCarthy (Wilmington, Mass.) three, but the Falcons rattled off four straight to retake the lead.  The Rams rattled off a 13-5 run midway through the frame to open up a five point lead before eventually taking a 33-29 edge into the locker room.

Fitchburg took the lead in the opening minutes of the second on a Bosworth bucket in the paint and never looked back as they rattled off a 12-0 run over the next four minutes to take control.

The Rams are back in action on Saturday with they host MASCAC foe Salem State at 3 p.m.
