Field Hockey Triumphs Over UMass Dartmouth in Overtime

Framingham, Mass. - The Framingham State field hockey team defeated UMass Dartmouth 3-2 in overtime Thursday evening in Framingham. A late-game equalizer from UMD pushed the game into extra time, but Framingham State's goal late in OT led them to victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • Framingham State broke the scoreless deadlock at 21:08, with Mikayla Malmquist scoring off an assist from Emma Bailey, giving the Rams a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.  

  • Mass.-Dartmouth responded quickly in the third period when Brooke Lydon poked in a rebound at 40:50 to level the game at 1-1. 

  • Just two minutes later, Framingham regained the lead, with Angelina Serra converting on a penalty stroke at 42:57, making it 2-1. 

  • In a thrilling finish to regulation, Brooke Lydon struck again for UMD, with Arlene Johnson assisting at 49:11, sending the game to overtime tied at 2-2. 

  • Framingham State's Kaylee Beck became the hero, scoring the game-winning goal on a long strike that deflected off a defender and into the cage at 69:42, sealing a hard-fought 3-2 victory for the Rams. 

 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • Shots: Mass.-Dartmouth outshot Framingham State 12-11, with both teams generating consistent offensive pressure, especially in the final moments of the game. 

  • Saves: Framingham State's goalkeeper, Kaitlyn Tello, made 5 saves on 7 shots, while Mass.-Dartmouth's Hannah Trombly stopped 6 of 9 shots. 

  • Penalty Corners: Framingham State earned 5 penalty corners to Mass.-Dartmouth's 4.
