Bailey’s Double Overtime Winner Sends Field Hockey Over Salem

Framingham, Mass.- Framingham State's Emma Bailey tipped in a cross in front of the left post in the 80thminute, her second goal of the afternoon, to send the Rams past Salem State 4-3 in MASCAC action Saturday afternoon at Maple Street Field.   

THE BASICS: 

Score: Framingham State 4, Salem State 3 (2OT) 

Records: Framingham State (2-4, 1-1), Salem State (2-5, 0-2)

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • Salem State struck first with a goal by Allison Thomas, assisted by Grace Morey, just six minutes into the game.  

  • Framingham State responded four minutes later when Emma Bailey scored unassisted, leveling the score at 1-1. 

  • After a scoreless second quarter, Framingham State took the lead when Angelina Serra netted a goal in the 36th minute. The Rams went up 2-1, but Salem State refused to quit. 

  • In a action packed final period, Salem State's Grace Morey tied the game at 2-2 in the 46th minute.  

  • The Rams answered in the 58th minute with an unassisted goal by Natalia Roehr, giving the Rams a 3-2 advantage. However, just over a minute later, Salem's Hannah Cochran found the equalizer to make it 3-3, sending the game into overtime. 

  • Both teams battled through a scoreless first overtime period. In the second overtime, Emma Bailey scored her second goal of the game, with an assist from Angelina Serra on a corner play, clinching the 4-3 victory for the Rams at the 79:36 mark.  

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • Framingham State dominated offensively, outshooting Salem State 20-5, with 14 shots on goal compared to Salem's 4. 

  • Salem State goalie Izzy Mosley made 10 saves, keeping her team in the game. 

  • Framingham State's defense limited Salem to just five shots, with Rowan Whittaker in goal for the Rams. 

  • The Rams earned 18 penalty corners, compared to Salem State's 5.
